Adjacent to wilderness area and within the Monongahela National Forest. Somewhat protected. Signs on Northland Loop trail warn against trampling, but there are still multiple spur trails. Surrounded by other open "bog" communities (graminoid) in a large opening with Spruce forest on the margins. Tributary of Alder Run flows within a few yards of the plot.;An attractive open graminoid community dominated by cottongrass - white beakrush / cranberry - sundew on a yeilding sphagnum mat. Located a few hundred yards east of the plot is the boardwalk and the Northland Loop interpretive trail. Some footprints are discernable crossing the plot, but disturbace is minimal. Historical disturbances; logging, clearing, and WWII bombardment. No obvious deer trails or herbivory.

A fairly uniform small patch occurring in several places (primarily around the boardwalk but also here) in Alder Run Bog.
