Wilderness Area in the Monongahela National Forest. Little apparent disturbance. Well protected from road by dense kalmia thickets. Trail access is not marked and does not appear to get much use. Open bog lies to the south, west and north, spruce forest to the east (separated by Carex gynandra seeps). Young Aspen shrubs to the NW 20 m.;Relatively diverse community of open herbaceous vegetation fed mainly by groundwater seepage. Less acidic than other parts of Fisher Spring Run. Unclear whether Typha is advancing or receding although young plants seem to be colonizing the edges.
Representativeness
This is a fairly dry stand of Typha in a relatively diverse open seepage wetland. Its dryness may mean it is not typical, but since this is our first Typha plot we are uncertain.
