Part of larger wetland complex (Alder Run Bog) in Mon. Forest.;Alder has dominated this part of Alder Run Bog at least since the 1960's, according to Joan Gibson, who visited the wetland with me today. She did not specifically recall whether cattails were present in earlier years.
Representativeness
Large stand of Typha - Salix - Alder that is fairly uniform in this part of the wetland. Should be typical of wet acidic successional community. This looks similar to the very large stands in northern Canaan Valley, among the beaver ponds.
