This swamp is located in the floodplain of the Laurel Fork, inside the Wilderness Area. Norway Spruce plantations with active regeneration are in the uplands within a few hundred meters of the plot. Alder swamp separates this forested swamp from the Laurel Fork.;The opening contains early successional plants but the plot as a whole is mid-successional with natural disturbance. Many downed trees, most of which are covered with Bazzania. Sphagnum and Rhizomnium fills the hollows. Large tip mounds throughout the community. Many of the trees have buttressed roots up to 1.5 m high.
