Wilderness area. Large open wetland with Picea rubens woodland swamp on margins. Open community typed include Carex canescens, Scirpus (MONF.188), and large expanses of bog with Eriophorum, Vaccinium oxycoccos.;Typha patch near the edge of a large open wetland. Old stumps throughout this open wetland indicate past forest. Wetland may have greatly increased after early 1900's logging. Invasion of Typha likely more recent. Across basin another small patch of Typha is in an area of standing dead spruce. Reminiscent of Dobbins Slashing where Typha patches across the valley seem related to old road for possibly geologic feature.
Representativeness
Most of small patch of cattail dominance. Plot is mostly homogenous with some drier hummocks around old stump bases.
historical clearing, fire, paludification ca 1900. May be adeventive community type therefore composite ranking not applicable. Plot is fed by small streamlet from above. High pH may be susceptible to cattail invasion.
