River corridor with FS gravel road and rail trail on one side. Other side of river is unbounded, but steeper. Floodplain communities include red oak forests, St. Johnswort cobble bars, and other types.;Riverside point bar / confluence with well developed herbaceous community dominated be Carex trichocarpa with abundant Asclepias syriaca. Community may be kept open by flooding or sediment deposition burying trees alive. This area could also have been used for agriculture and slow succession due to vigorous dominance by rhizomatous sedge. Terrace slough slopes downhill towards upstream and confluence - may be giant whirlpool/eddy zone.
Representativeness
Plot covers lower terrace with near monoculture of Carex trichocarpa. The community extends to upper terrace but we sampled lower terrace to maximize wetland expression. Large patch also occurs across river.
