Upland floodplain forest is a mix of Picea rubens and Tsuga canadensis with Rhododendron maximum browsed out but present in trace.;Meandering seepy backchannel in the floodplain of Little River between the river and road. Backchannel has a meandering mud center which probably carries flowing water during growing season while larger channel (the width of plot) may carry water during floods. Trees are rooted on nurse logs or have elevated rootstocks. Canopy consists of hemlock, spruce, and sweet birch. Ground cover is dominated by mosses with some herbs in sunny openings.
Representativeness
Plot represents the width of the backchannel at a wider spot. Plot is mostly shaded with some sunny spots and other areas are completely shaded or a bit more open.
