Immediately surrounding the wetland is a zone of upland spruce with Vaccinium erythrocarpum present but low understory cover due to dog hair spruce stands. Above that is northern hardwoods with some spruce. Spruce again dominates on ridgetop in doghair stands.;Herbaceous seep formed in finger at headwaters of a large, long wetland complex. Community is dominated by Carex gynandra and Chelone glabra with high diversity and abundance of orchid seen earlier in the season last year. There are a few stunted trees near edge of finger and some dead standing snags, but herb dominance seems naturally maintained by continual seepage on this gentle bottom slope. Sawn stump and large horizontal snags attest to changes in hydrology and past land use. Spruce knocked over continues to grow with significant S2 cover.
Representativeness
Long plot center of seepage "gut" as defined by dominance of Carex gynandra and Chelone glabra.
