Swamp lies between upland spruce forest (subject to logging by MNF) and open, beaver-influenced Glade Run wet meadows. This swamp is buffered from Gaudineer Scenic Area road by the open wetland.;Old growth acidic spruce swamp in headwater basin adjacent to Glade Run. Old trees, well-developed structure. Tip mounds and nurse logs in various states of decay, with most living trees growing on taller irregular hummocks (old nurse logs and tip mounds) with buttressed roots. Many trunks are either asymmetrical at the bottom or slanted for part of their length. This is not a dark cathedral forest, but rather a sunny forest with many layers and dispersed, abundant small openings. Some hummocks 1.5m tall.
Representativeness
High quality example of acidic spruce swamp. This stand is larger, and in better condition than others I have seen. It forms a band of varying width (3-30m) along eastern edge of open wetland. See aerial photo for stand size.
