Ridge above plot becomes acidic with red oak forest extending downhill on opposite aspect to a bedrock ledge. Below this ledge is a rich and dry oak-hickory forest (see MONF.210). Big elm just above plot on old fence line, also big shagbark.;Small bowl with ephemeral stream channel on limestone geology. Community is a forest dominated by black walnut with a lush forb layer with wingstem conspicuous at this time of year. Forest is medium aged successional, very reminiscent of some floodplain terrace forests at Bluestone. Stream comes out of small cave mouth just above plot and there is another cave entrance nearby which looks like it's used little, or dead ends.
Representativeness
Small patch of Juglans dominance thought to successional on old field limestone, about 4 times the size of plot, also has tulip poplar and magnolia out of plot.
