Woodland has similar species without Carex canescens and Rubus hispidus, but with some drier mosses (Leucobryum).;Tall (30-70cm) Polytrichum commune hummocks in wet open area near headwater stream Yellow Creek. This community is off to the side of the alluvial wetland. A small, nearly stagnant channel runs through the hummocks to feed Yellow Creek. This community grades into hemlock swamp. Spruce tree on periphery is 74 years old.
