Wilderness Area with difficult access across creek and up steep slope from N. Fork Cranberry Trail.;Even aged spruce -hemlock forest with abundant spruce regeneration. Scattered spruce snags smaller than T2 living trees are evidence of past density dependant mortality stage. One spruce cored was 180 yrs old, but size was not huge--showed release during mid-life. Some larger stumps in plot but not clear if they were sawn or natural. Red maple is co-dominant in canopy. Very little in shrub layer except spruce.
Representativeness
Medium -large patch mapped by USFS as older aged spruce stand of spruce, but appearing to be about same as most other spruce in state. Plots was positioned to sample conifer dominance with large spruce component.
