W side of ridge has oak-pitch pine forest, perhaps reflecting break in geology, aspect, or tire. There is a gated road system and wildlife openings and large areas of young forest on this ridge sustem. Just of ridge are some small sinkholes with acidic flora.;Complex ridge system at S end of Beaver Lick Mountain eroded from Helderberg limestone. This community on the north facingshoulder is a forest of large trees including red oak, shagbark, cucumber tree, over a tall shrub canopy of striped maple with white snakeroot dominant in herb layer. Drought seems to limit striped maple and possible snake root.
Representativeness
Repeated in patches on convex shoulders and knobs. Chose to include mix of large trees thought to reflect limestone influenced soils and to avoid dense shade and low herb cover caused by heavy striped maple cover.
