Landscape Narrative ? Middle Mountain Road is located roughly 100m SW of the plot and FS Rd 1447 is located ca. 150m NE. The plot is surrounded by National Forest for miles in all directions. This community type or a variation of it appears to continue along the ridge both N and S of the plot.;Northern hardwood forest community dominated by PRSE - ACSA / FAGR. Few herbaceous species. However, the forest floor is covered with Trout lilies and Wood anemone. The low shrub layer is almost non-existent giving the forest a very open feel. There are a few young Beech scattered in the S1 layer. There is considerable amounts of blow down, most of it appears to be old and somewhat decayed. Perhaps caused by density dependent mortality. The forest floor is covered with tip mounds and pits. The forest canopy is still only 50% lefed out and much of the Wood anemone is still in bloom.
Representativeness ? This plot is representative of the matrix forest community found on Middle Mtn. It is a large patch dominated by Sugar Maple - Black Cherry / Beech. Plot was placed to sample Windy Ridges project polygon.
