Landscape Narrative ? To the S along the Eastern side of the ridge is a timber cut. It appears to be roughly 10 - 15 years in age. Between here and plot MONF.348 the forest remains very similar ranging from areas with either Black Cherry or Beech dominance.;Gently sloping shoulder slope forest with Black Cherry, American Beech, and White Ash in the O' story. Soils appear thin and rocky. Lots of Back Cherry regeneration. The forest floor is covered with spring beauty. Lots of windthrow observed headed upslope. The forest floor is very uneven due to old tip mounds. The trees are only 2/3 leafed out at the time of the survey. Large old stumps throughout the plot.
Representativeness ? This plot is representative of the matrix Northern hardwood forest which occurs on Middle Mtn. It is similar to plot MONF.348 except here there is exposed sandstone rocks and more low shrub regeneration. Plot was placed to sample variation in the ridget
