Huckleberry-blueberry-mountain laurel shrubland interfingers with spruce woodlands on the rocky Allegheny Front at this site. Part of Dolly Sods-unlikely to be logged. Road to Bear Rocks runs ~150 m west of site.;Flagged, wide-skirted spruce woodland on lichen-covered boulder talus. Heath shrubs and polypody ferns fill many interstices between boulders. Spruce skirts extend as much as 6 m from trunk, creating large cover for a relatively small # of trees. "Skirt" cover is noted in the S2 stratum although it belongs to T2 trees. "Rock rivers" finger through the stand.
Representativeness
One of numerous patches of flagged spruce woodland. This patch seems typical and is far enough away from the road to be missing exotics.
