Bordered by Allegheny Front to the East. There is an open woodland (Red Creek Plains) to the west. No roads or trails to the area. The stand grades into spruce -pitchpine and then spruce-pitchpine swamp as you approach the wetland;Stunted pitch pine and deciduous forest, with low canopy height (~8m) with dense shrub layer on flat acidic sandstone plateau. Very similar to communities sampled at Helmick Run. Red Spruce is coming up in the Understory, perhaps successional after this was burned. Many moss covered boulders less that 1 m diameter. Kalmia is very dense, and in some places appears to have been chipped with an axe (old trail?)
Representativeness
Pitch pine/ Kalmia latifolia with few spruce. Similar to plots sampled at Helmick Run.
