Birch-rhododendron forest covers parts of this slope (waiting for spruce to return after historic fires?) Farther up on Roaring Plains, spruce-birch/rhodo forest is continuous;Well formed spruce-birch/ rhododendron forest on North-facing slope of ravine above Red Creek. Trees are well-formed. Forest Road (Closed to public most of the year) runs ~100 m upslope from plot. Good spruce regeneration. Probably post-clearcut or post-fire forest. Cored tree shows vigorous growth 1924-1964 with slower growth as canopy presumably closed in. Sandstone boulders, mostly moss-covered, under foot.
Representativeness
Plot was placed in one of several areas with larger trees.
