Other spruce type in vicinity include 1) Picea rubens/Dryopteris intermedia (MONF.301) and Picea/Rhododendron maximum-R. catawbiense (MONF.75);Nearly flat mountaintop with an even aged stand of Picea rubens past the density dependant mortality stage, but lacking multiaged structure. There is a low shrub layer dominated by Vaccinium erythrocarpon, perhaps kept low by browsing. The dominant herb is Dryopteris campyloptera in contrast to dominance by Dryopteris intermedia on the west slope below. Larger tree cored=99yrs. Lots of down pole-sized wood.

One phase of a very large polygon of red spruce which spans the mountain top-this one has abundant Vaccinium erythrocarpon and Dryopteris campyloptera.
