About 100 m away (W) is the gravel road leading to Spruce Knob. To the S the forest appears more like typical spruce plots with few species of deciduous trees, this begins about 70 m away.;Spruce forest intermixed with sugar maple, yellow birch, beech and red maple. There are large sandstone rocks throughout the plot the size of basketballs and beachballs. Most of the deciduous trees are nearing their peak for autumn color. There are a few small snags scattered throughout the plot.
Representativeness
Plot represents spruce forest that is mixed with deciduous. There is more diversity here than most spruce plots sampled this season. It appears to be located on Greenbrier limestone/Mauch Chunk which may account for the greater diversity.
