Putative edaphic Pitch Pine occurs in a narrow band along the cliff edge. Older forests are Oak / Mountain Laurel. Small boulderfields (see MONF.360). Oak - Hickory glady woodlands.;Dry, flat ridgetop on acidic sandstone. Forest with an open canopy dominated by short Pitch Pine, about 60 years old. Dense shrub layer dominated by Huckleberry with Mountain Laurel and Scrub Oak. Mesophytic regeneration includes White Pine and Sweet Birch. Three trees cored range from 52 - 66 yrs old (dbh 27, 34, 14cm). Cored White Pine just outside plot = 49 years old. Red Oak regeneration outside plot.
Representativeness
Large patch of successional Pitch Pine with fairly uniform composition.
