This small patch of mature forest is an "island" on this degraded ridge, which is otherwise covered with multi-stemmed (heavy grazing pressure in past) Striped Maple, Black Locust, Hawthorn and Cherry, with abundant exotic weeds (Timothy, Yarrow). Highly invasive species were not observed.;Small patch, probably a remnant of the forest that once covered this ridge. A few large Red Oaks with broken crowns, perhaps from wind / ice damage, are dominant. I did not observe any fire scars. Large deadfall is present but no stumps. First - year Oak seedlings are abundant but none apparently survive deer browse into the shrub layer.
Representativeness
Plot was placed to sample small remnant patch of mature forest, on degraded ridgetop. This area is within the Ramshorn Prescribed Burn Project boundary and also in a high wind polygon.
