Downslope is geology break to rich limestone infested by heavy cover of stiltgrass and garlic mustard. Trail runs along bottom of plot, little used, steep.;Convex nose on western flank of Cave Mountain. Sterile substrate above a rich limey band supports a large stand of old growth chestnut oak. Plot on nose is particularly dry. There are a couple sapling Va pine, possibly started in gap from past gypsy moth defoliation? Scattered hemlock are all dead! Blueberry hugs ground probably due to heavy deer browse.
