Large shale woodland bordered by farm and river below and Monongahela National Forest above. Microstegium vimneum is moving upslope from the farm and is within 10 m of the barren.;Open shale channery slope adjacent to 3 m escarpment, partly shaded by scattered trees. South facing steep and treacherous crumbling slope with sparse herbaceous vegetation. Ferns, Phlox, and lichens are in cracks along escarpment.
Representativeness
Slightly more open, shaly section of large shale woodland at Turkey Pen Shale Barren. Arabis serotina occurs in both denser woodland (with more forbs) and this more open slope.
