To the south is a large clearcut with sapling regeneration. Downslope loses blueberry understory.;Side ridge of Laurel Mountain on acidic substrate. Community is a forest of medium-large oaks with scattered black gum. Subcanopy is mostly shade tolerant red maple, beech and birch. Short shrub layer has moderate cover dominated by blueberry. Very few herbs. Rotted stumps and a windfall and even aged younger patches are evidence of past natural disturbance. USFS has girdled T3 maple and birch in stand-- cant leave well enough alone.
