Roadless river gorge accessed by Allegheny Trail. Downslope on floodplain is red oak - cherry - tuliptree / rhododendron.;Steep, rocky colluvial slope with east aspect above a floodplain bottom. Forest is dominated by widely spaced sugar maple and clumps of basswood. Sweet birch, elm, and red oak are also scattered in stand. There is abundant down wood. Canopy opened by downfall.
Representativeness
Matrix or large patch forest on cool aspect. Spring sampling catches spring flora. Sugar maple - basswood under-represented by plots on sandstone in this region.
