Opposite aspect has red oak-sugar maple (high slope) and basswood - red oak (MONF.478).;Warm aspect of dissected shale foothills, with predominant side ridges facing NE and SW. Community is a deciduous forest dominated by chestnut oak, with red and white oak scattered in stand. Red maple dominates sub-canopy. Understory is evergreen and deciduous ericad shrub with few herbs. There is abundant dead fall in plot, but canopy gap is closed by sub-canopy trees.
