Futher up trail at local elevational maximum forest shifts to oak-hickory (dry and dry-mesic varients), probably reflecting a shift in geology and more fertile soil (see MONF.505).;Ridgeline of low mountain on acidic substrate. Community is deciduous forest, dominated by somewhat stunted chestnut oaks with additional oaks, hickory and red maple in subcanopy. Shrub layer is relatively dense, dominated by deciduous ericaceous species. Herbs are sparse.
