Isolated section of river located within the Monongahela National Forest. The Allegehny Trail is located 50 m S across a floodplain of Tsuga canadensis - Liriodendron tulipifera - Betula alleghaniensis / Rhododendron maximum. The Glady Fork River is adjacent to the plot to the N. Plot MONF.477 is located just downstream on river left. This tall herb community repeats in small patches along the Glady Fork beginning upriver at least from the bridge and possibly further. (Circa 5 miles?);Open and sunny tall herb community. There are several 1-3 m sycamore shrubs in the plot. There are several piles of flotsom consisting of 30 + dbh logs. The herbs are dominated by the Asteraceae (Doellingeria umbellata, Solidago rugosa, S. gigantea, and Hasteola suaveolens). The river is somewhat straight, swift and shallow in this stretch of the Glady Fork. The stand seems to receive little disturbance besides flooding and the occassional fisherman
Representativeness
Small linear patch of tall herbs on frequently flooded river island. Plot is similar to other tall herb communities observed on the Glady Fork, Laurel Fork, and Shavers Fork rivers. Here there is more sweet scented indian plantain than other tall herb co
