Sandstone spit coming off the E flank of McGowen Mountain. The community to the N is yellow birch - red maple - eastern hemlock / great laurel. To the S of the rocks the community is eastern hemlock / great laurel. The view from the clifftop (plot MONF.513) is quite beautiful. Many other cliff / boulder areas can be observed. As well as overlooking the Otter Creek / Yellow Creek confuence.;Large sandstone cliff at the end of a point of McGowen Mountain. The plot is on the shady moist side. Much of the rock is overhanging and lichen covered. There are a few areas where the slope is extreme. These areas are covered in mosses. Because the plot follows the contour of the cliff the face as multiple micro-aspects. The cliff averages 10 m in height.
