Northwest corner of Dolly Sods Wilderness Area. Young spruce forest surrounds outcrop.;Highly dissected bedrock outcrop capping Rocky Ridge on the western escarpment of Cabin Mountain. Shrubs and grasses grow in crevices and cracks, some of which are 2-3 meters deep. Upper surfaces of outcrop have less lichen cover than sides of crevices, probably due to trampling. Some charred wood in crevices. This outcrop may have been severly impacted by fire, motorcyclist , and recreation in years past. Possibly some of the outcrop is newly exposed following historic logging and fire. A few potholes in bedrock hold water.

Plot was placed to capture open bedrock lichen community, away from shrubbier edges of the outcrop. NE-SW running ridgeline.
