Redman Run Trail runs 200 m NE , including parking area behind gated FS road. Surrounded by second growth oak-ericad forest.;Beautiful lichen-covered shale slab field with minimal disturbance. Craig Stihler noted paper birch in this community but we did not see it today. Sweet birch and pitch pine with thick trunks and stunted and open growth form are scattered in lines through the slab field. Very unstable terrain. Birch and chestnut have multistemmed trunks (mobility of substrate). Chestnut is fruiting.
Representativeness
Plot was placed to sample mix of open slab field and wooded trips to capture the representative open woodland quality of the slope.
