Wind flagged spruce forest surrounds the boulderfield to the NE,SW, and E. To the NW the forest appears to be a mix of red spruce - red maple with spruce dropping out after roughly 100 ft drop in elevation. There is a radio tower on ridge ca. 100m NE. There are several open boulderfields both to the NE and SW along this northern flank of Flat Rock Plains.;Open and weathered boulderfield on NNW exposure. Community is made up of lichen covered boulders ranging in size from cinderblocks to compact cars. The dominant life form is the lichen which I refer to as tan or brown circles. Small amounts of charred woody debris observed in hollows between and beneath the boulders.
Representativeness
Scattered small patches of open lichen covered boulderfield. Plot was placed to maximize cover by open boulderfield and minimize cover by red spruce. Plot is similar to plot sampled on plateau break on Red Creek Plain, only here there is less cover by Umb
