Landscape Narrative ? Just S of the cliff is a mixed deciduous / heath forest dominated by red maple - yellow birch - sweet birch / great laurel with some scattered eastern hemlock throughout. To the N in and on the rock outcrop are plots MONF.543,544,545. Above the outcrop is a stunted forest of red spruce - hemlock / great laurel. The Otter Creek trail is located ca. 400 m S.;Large S facing sandstone outcrop made up of both large boulders and bedrock. It is hard to distinguish which is which. The rock is conglomerate sandstone made up of coarse sandstone with rounded quartzite pebbles. The cliff face is covered with Umblicaria mamulata and blue dust lichen. The community is shaded much of the year by the adjacent forest of yellow birch - red maple - hemlock / great laurel. Little anthropologic disturbance. Site likely gets little if any visitation.
Representativeness ? Small patch of rock tripe covered sandstone boulder. Similar to plots sampled at GARI only here the surrounding forest has a more northern hardwood and a high elevation component.
