Within this stand to north are recent large downfall, probably from Derecho in summer 2012 as well as older large barkless downfall from prior events.;Cool aspect on rocky steep slope just below ridge shoulder. Site is subject to severe weather, evidenced by downfall of several events. Community is an open forest with scattered large red oaks with smaller sugar maples and sweet birch. There is a fairly lush herb layer dominated by ferns, including a rare Gymnocarpium. Open stand physiognomy probably due to disturbance interacting with shallow, rocky soils.
