Large N-S running ridge. North Fork Mountain trail dissects this community and is located 30 m E. For more context see other plots sampled in the area. Site is likely used by back packers. However it is a somewhat isolated section of trail unless you hike in from the utility corridor ca. 1.5 miles S.;Nice stand of second growth forest consisting og Quercus rubra - Prunus serotina / Acer rubrum / Dennstaedtia puncitlobula. The larger trees are well spaced and are relatively short in stature, with bent and twisted crowns. The forest is growing on a gently E sloping broad ridgetop. The site is somewhat low in diversity but there is a higher than normal cover by S2 oak seedlings, but there is still very little in the S1. Fire scars on large trees.
Representativeness
Large patch of somewhat mesic red oak forest. Plot was placed to sample common forest type with large cover but has been seldom sampled on North Fork Mountain.
