Isolated tract of USFS land with relatively little public access. Downslope the forest is mostly Quercus prinus / Kalmia latifolia below that is an oak - hickory foret and below that is a this band of red oak / juniper / mt. pimpernell forest. The North Fork South Branch Potomac River is located W ca 0.8 miles. Seneca Rocks is located ca 1 mile S.;Open sandstone cliff with little if any vascular plants growing within the plot other than sweetbirch and ferns growing in the cracks. The rock is entirely shaded by an even mixture of seetbirch - red maple - rock oak. The rock face is covered by mostly crustose and leprose lichens at the base and umbilicate lichens at the top. The rock doesn't overhang allowing for water to more easily reach the face allowing for higher lichen cover. Cliff characteristics; 10 m tall with 5% ledges and no overhang.
