Up slope is a sterile oak - heath forest / woodland until the rock outcrop (MONF.567) above that is a pine / heath woodland. Downslope beyond the fence the forest opens up into an old field. Narrow wedge of USFS land surrounded on 3 sides by private land.;Open forest of tall rock oak and red oak trees with young sugar maple encroaching from the bottom of the plot. The herbaceous is rather sparse but somewhat diverse. There are little to no S2 shrubs. This is likely due to deer herbivory. There is a fence line 30 m below plot and the USFS boundary is 10 m above that. The largest trees are scattered and broken up. Making it hard to get more than 2 big trees in the plot.
Representativeness
Small patch of possible old growth oak forest. Plot was placed along boundary between USFS and private land to maximize tree size and species diversity.
