Downslope is private land, with younger stand age. Heavy deer browse due to land access, and not hunted by neighbors. Cooler aspects have dry-mesic oak forest with less heath.;Dry aspect on slope off of nose on Chemung geology. Abundant platy sandstone on surface, exposed due to lack of ground cover. Forest is dominated by oaks with high size class diversity in older ages but little oak regeneration in shrub layers due to heavy deer herbivory. Blueberries are sparse and low, but deer-berry may be less platable.
Representativeness
Small patch repeated on warmest aspects. Plot sampled in conjunction with NRCS ecological site description. USFS stand origin ~1860~but not obviously old, except largest trees.
