Upslope from the plot is a small limestone cliff break roughly 3 m tall. Above that is the ridge w / red oak - white ash - sugar maple / Carex woodii forest. Downslope there is a steep drop off w/ a similar cliff to MONF.589. Below that is a sugar maple - basswood / Laportea forest.;Somewhat mesic forest on an E facing steep slope. The o'story is dominated by Quercus rubra - Acer saccharum - Tilia americana, the u'story is mostly Acer saccharum w/ some Ostrya and Hammamelis. There are a couple of old barkless stumps in the plot. There is a considerable amount of limestone colluvium although much of it is covered with litter.
Representativeness
Large patch of rich oak forest on limestone. Plot was placed to sample area with dominance by bulbiferous bladder fern. I have observed its dominance on cliffs but this covers several plots worth of area from the midslope to the ridge.
