Extensive successional northern hardwoods on rockier ground have heavy ground cover of hay-scented fern and Polygonum cilinode. Openings have abundant milk weeds. Mountain is accessible by gated road.;High elevation ridge system, east of the Eastern continental divide, but not in the rain shadow. Openings on ridge were probably once grazed, now a few openings are maintained for wildlife openings. Forest in less rocky areas is dominated by red oak with black cherry and red maple. Ground is swaley with dense lawn of Pensylvania sedge clones interlaced with hay-scented fern.
Representativeness
Small patch here, but repeated and becoming large patch in vicinity. May be transitional between stunted montane red oak of Ridge and Valley and red oak - black cherry of the Allghenies. Plot placed to capture Pennsylvania sedge dominance.
