Upslope to the S the forest is mixed northern hardwoods w/ yellow birch, black cherry, and red maple. Upslope to the N the forest is dry mesic oak w/ Quercus rubra - Acer rubrum - Fraxinus americana. Downslope the wetland opens up into a small patch Scirpus cyperinus wet meadow. The river is located SE ca. 400 m , Sully Rd CR10 is located roughly 850 m W of the plot.;Seepage swamp forest growing in the bottom of a NE facing cove. The cove is in the shape of a large half moon. Inperceptable on the ground but visible on aerial photography. The cove appears to be an ancient river oxbox. Forest is dominated by Tsuga canadensis - Betula alleghaniensis - Acer rubrum / Rhododendron maximum / Impatiens capensis. Most of the woody vegetation forms "root rafts" clusters of roots that are moss covered and relatively dry but between these areas are herbaceous lows which appear to pond when it rains. Low diversity acidic forest w / few forbs. Hemlocks are dying with most already missing at least 1/3 of their needles. Lots of tip mounds of Tsuga canadensis and Betula alleghaniensis due to shallow roots and soft saturated soil.
Representativeness
