See plots MONF.18-24, 64-65. This landscape ahs a high diversity of unusual plant communities on limestone and shale. Top of mountain is mostly private and includes grazing land and 2nd homesites.;Loose scree slope on bench between limestone cliff bands and ledges. Community dominated by Thuja occidentalis and Quercus rubra (with bark like Quercus prinus). Little in shrub or herb layer. Large Thuja, may be old growth. Old road/trail is close behind plot. Probably affected by deer browse. (revisit 10/13/04, Thuja cored=95 yrs)
Representativeness
Small patch of Thuja, usually associated with steep cliffs, sampled here on the edge of a ledge system because it is accessible. May be atypical with higher canopy cover, but lower shrub cover (?) due to deer browsing.
