Landscape Narrative ? Stream is at base of Cheat Mountain which rises 1000 feet to east with several geologic strata exposed up its flank. Surrounding upland forests include dry oak / ericad and montane red oak types. Proposed Wilderness Area.;Rocky terrace along small perennial stream with a forest of hemlock with tulip poplar and sweet birch. Many large boulders in plot. Position may be occasionaly flooded. There is lots of down wood and a few snags with fire scars. Rocks and logs are mossy but there is low herbaceous cover and diversity.
Representativeness ? Linear large patch community along stream corridors. Part of stand has dominance by Rhododnron maximum which is absent from plot and its immeadiate area - however this would likely still be considered the same community type. No adelgid symptoms observed
