Stream is at base of Cheat Mountain which rises 1000 feet to east with several geologic strata exposed up its flank. Surrounding upland forests include dry oak / ericad and montane red oak types. Proposed Wilderness Area.;Rocky terrace along small perennial stream with a forest of hemlock with tulip poplar and sweet birch. Many large boulders in plot. Position may be occasionaly flooded. There is lots of down wood and a few snags with fire scars. Rocks and logs are mossy but there is low herbaceous cover and diversity.
Representativeness
Linear large patch community along stream corridors. Part of stand has dominance by Rhododnron maximum which is absent from plot and its immeadiate area - however this would likely still be considered the same community type. No adelgid symptoms observed
