Remote canyon on private land with access by rough road. White pine, dying hemlock / rhododendron on terrace across creek. Slope forests include recently logged areas, Gaylussacia brachycera abundant along road coming in, also in logged areas across creek.;Sandstone cliff just above stream channel on eroded outside bend of Second Creek. Rock is thin layered and blocky with numerous horizontal cracks and ledges. Cool aspect and shade from trees at base provide moist conditions which support a unique combination of plants, including some with southern affinity (Saxifraga michauxii, Galax aphylla). Lichens, mosses and liverworts are also abundant. Cliffs are shaded by Tsuga canadensis and Betula lenta but Tsuga is dying.

Ten meter high cliff face sampled from bottom for 40 m. Continues downstream another 50+ m, with slightly warmer aspect (N), and around corner to east aspect another 50 m.
