Upslope ca. 100m is a large cliff break (MORG.4). Above that is a mature Oak forest. The tallus community continues several hundred meters below the plot. There it is more open and dominated by lichens, with even less vascular plant cover.;Open xeric shrubland growing on large tallus slope of tuscarora sandstone. The rock fragments are roughly 0.5m2 to 1m2 in size. The tallus is located in a draw between 2 rocky points. There is little vascular vegetation, only a handful of twisted Sweet Birches. The dominant life form within the stand are lichen species.
Representativeness
Large patch of a tallus field shrubland dominated by Betula lenta / Umbilicaria 'mamulata'. Plot was placed to sample windy ridge polygon occurring on Cacapon Mtn.
