Between this community and Sleepy Creek is a thin patch of Justicia americana and Ptilimnium fuviatile. This patch occurs on both sides of the stream and runs downstream ca. 100 meters (see plot MORG.6). Above the plot is a Platanus occidentalis - Betula nigra / tall herb community much like those sampled at BLUE and HARP. Plot is located on stream right of Sleepy Creek.;The plot is an herbaceous community with several copiced sycamore and river birch shrubs. The plot is subject to frequent flooding. Sleepy Creek is flowing E - W here so this community is exposed to full sunlight for most of the day. The Ptilimnium only grows in the wettest areas of the plot. Community is on a small levee with a back channel along the N edge and Sleepy Creek on the S edge. The plot is located on a high depositional area. Deer browse observed on some of the tall herbs.
Representativeness
Small patch of herbaceous community growing on a slightly higher terrace than the adjacent Justicia - Ptilimnium community (plot MORG.6). The plot was placed to sample the Ptilimnium in this slighty drier and more diverse flood zone.
