Plot is located on a sandstone rock cliff/ spit. The river bends around the spit almost 90 degrees. Below the cliff to the N the stream is slow and deep. Across the river is a thin patch of Platanus occidentalis tall herb and then an open meadow. To the S at the base of the cliff Sleepy Creek is more narrow and shallow. Here there is a thin patch of Justicia - Ptilimnium (see plot MORG.8) Across Sleepy Creek is a tall herb community. To the west across the river from the spit is Tilia americana - Tsuga canadensis on steep cliff with Stachys nuttali cf.;Open pine woodland growing on a sandstone cliff. There are several small terraces on the cliff. Here there are mosses and some herbs. Most of the woodland floor is open bedrock or covered with small shale fragments (ca. 2 cm square). Much of the bedrock is covered with Xanthoparmelia sp. The plot is sunny, hot, and dry.
