Most of landscape is developed for agriculture or residence. This weedy forest block may be one of largest forest blocks on limestone in the county. More prevalent forest in this block are tuliptree varients which are more clearly successional after clearing and agricultural use. NCTC grounds may be defensible for restoration and conservation management in the future.;Forest on limestone on rolling uplands of a "neck" surrounded by a large meander bend of the Potomac River. Small patch sampled by plot is dominated by hickories with some chinquapin oak. Area has been altered by a long history of agriculture, logging, roads, and current high deer population. Paw paw has relatively low cover in this plot compared to elsewhere nearby - this species is probably expanding due to heavy deer pressure on other palatable vegetation. A cleared survey line goes through plot.
