Downslope on 100 year floodplain are young successional box elder thickets and old ag fields, now being planted with trees in tubes. Upslope is the NCTC campus.;Lower slope above 100 year floodplain of Potomac River. Area was probably cleared for agriculture then came back in successional forest. Stand is a mix of mesic-site trees including tulip tree, locust, box elder, walnut, and hickories. Site may have received sedimentation from farming and/or building of NCTC campus. Small drainage channel from parking lot runs along edge of plot. Geology may include some cobble from ancient river terrace.

Small patch of mixed successional forest on lower slope. Early spring sample. Needs late season herbs.
